Packaging is an integral part of our everyday life. Nature demonstrates fine examples: egg and nut shells or banana skins are perfect reflections of functional packaging which achieve their natural cycle, without wastage or pollution.
The process solutions proposed using Bobst Group converting equipment (Folding Carton, Corrugated Board and Flexible Materials industries) play a major role in preserving the environment while also ensuring the essential functions of packaging.
For example, due to innovative solutions included in our machines, the environmental impact from various processes such as printing, coating, laminating, die-cutting, folding and slitting & rewinding, is minimized.
In the same way, the implementation of a controlled follow-up throughout the new development process enables sustainable solutions to be applied right from the beginning. This is particularly true in 3 areas during the development of our machines.
Waste reduction
Quality control systems integrated into our machines enable customers to significantly reduce waste. This can also be achieved through increased efficiency of drying systems, by a shorter web length through the machine or by faster and simplified job changeovers, particularly in the printing process.
Energy Reduction
With centralised control systems and the choice of higher performance motors, power consumption is reduced compared to other available equipment. A reduction in energy consumption by more efficient and higher performing drying systems is one of the most important sources of energy savings.
Dangerous Product Reduction
Systems are being established to help decrease the consumption of ink and adhesives applied to substrates during customers’ production processes. Even if the influence of Bobst Group on our customers’ choice of inks and adhesives is limited, the Group can offer better adapted solutions (machines or production lines); for example, the use of water-based inks and adhesives and the use of powder or water-based paint to replace solvent-based paints. All these activities are signs of Bobst Group’s willingness and commitment to make a positive contribution towards protection of the environment.
Bobst Group is currently and actively investing in the protection of the environment through a sustainable development policy integrated into our processes. We will continue to demonstrate this concrete action to our customers again and again, with our current and future machines and process solutions.
